Things I want/ will most likely need in the immediate future

Printed pants baby!

They are popping up everywhere and I can't believe I don't own a pair! Well I did, but made the mistake of buying cheap ones in a junior's size and ended up giving them away. They come in so many varieties and prints that it's hard to choose. I'm especially fond of the large floral prints and in darker colors. I'm not really looking to highlight my thunder thighs. One thing you have to keep in mind when shopping for printed pants/jeans is to look for a pattern that still has a slimming effect and in colors you're comfortable in. Nothing screams fashion wreck like a bad pair of pants.

I know they are a trend that most likely won't last very long, but here's to hoping I'm wrong! I think printed pants are the cats pajamas (try to wrap your head around that sentence- yeah).

Next item on my list is a black leather skirt. I'm not talking about anything à la Pretty Woman. I'm talking about a well structured skirt that carries a hint of edge because it's made of leather. Think of it as one of those quiet girls who wears glasses and when she takes them off she turns into Karen O. Now that's badass chic.

I am in love with Alexa Chung, girl knows how to rock a leather skirt!

Alexa is one of my fashion icons and here she's looking easy chic in a very short leather skirt. Topped with a casual sweater she tones down the hoochie. Love, just love.

One last item on my list is actually nothing special, but I believe it is something every girl needs in her shoe arsenal. A black wedge angle boot preferably in suede. They are cute, comfortable and sooo versatile.

I have been looking high and low for a pair that won't blow out my wallet in one fell swoop, but no luck yet.

(Drool, gimme gimme gimme!)
These are a pair I've had my eye on. They have cool cut-outs along the laces and they look fairly comfortable. Basically, pair these puppies with jeans and a blouse or even a casual skirt with black tights. They instantly add a little bit of fashion to an otherwise simple outfit.

Most people have goals like losing weight or quitting smoking. My goals are usually shopping lists and searching for the perfect item to add to my wardrobe. It's hard work and exhausting, trust me. Weight Watcher's ain't got nothin' on me! I take that last part back, they have Jennifer Hudson on their side so I'll just take a step back.

Anywho, those are items on my ever changing list. Do you have anything you've been searching/ yearning for?

It's been a long time

I'm going to attempt to sew a pair if pants. I don't think I've actually made something since high school. The sewing samples from my design class in college don't really count. The package does say 'Beginner', which might being putting too much faith in my sewing skills. Now to find some fabric. I'll post pics of the process and final product

Shopping trip

I've finally done it! And by 'I' I mean we and by 'we' I mean Kate and I.

The other day I went over to Kate's house and put together some sweet looks from the shopping trip we had a few weeks ago. We created an amateur photo shoot, which let me tell you is a lot harder than it looks. Let me preface these photos by saying Ms. Kate is an amazing model and I loved shooting her. My only wish is that my camera had a faster shutter speed.

This first look is a favorite because it's so cute and easy to put together. The blouse is adorable, it has little green hearts on it!

trees make her contemplative

This next look I love to wear often, it's great when you're in a rush and need something fun quickly. A fitted blazer with a flow-y blouse creates structure and still maintains femininity.

She's actually composing a symphony, doesn't even have to look

Sometimes I get lazy when it comes to getting dressed, but I think I'd rather be lazy in this sweater. I mean, it has hearts on the elbows. That's awesome. I just realized the heart theme, key the eighties hair-band music!

Harry Potter book definitely required

The holidays are coming up and that means parties/ get togethers/ I feel like dressing fancy today dammit. This calls for metallics and a metallic skirt is an easy way to wear the trend. I paired it with this beautiful dark green blouse, jewel tones stand out best against metallic pieces.

 It's just. so. fancy

Moving on.

Statement necklaces are the best way to add, well, a statement. Plus, turquoise makes for an easy jewelry piece to transition through the seasons.

AHHH! The adorable is blinding!

I have to confess this outfit was complete indulgence on my part. Don't get me wrong jean jackets are cool, but this one takes the cake. First, we have the normal look

Just hangin' by a fence, no biggie

This next one is just the best

Yes, just yes. If you don't know this character then you can jist git out! I'm kidding please stay, I need you!

Robin Sparkles is probably the best pop star to come out of comedy television programming way ahead of Hannah Montana.

Kate wants to go to the mall...today

I really want her to wear this jacket like it ain't no thang because it's the coolest jean jacket I've ever seen!
I'll understand if she doesn't

I'm not sure if you noticed, but I love a good blouse especially a printed one. I put on a big pashmina to add an easy accessory.
Side note: walking shots are hard to take...that's all I've got

And finally, I was inspired by the small path that runs along the side of Kate's house. The dress was something she had already, I just wanted a whimsical looking shot.

So much whimsy! It's like Narnia...or something

I wanted to create looks that Kate was comfortable in and easy for her to recreate. Not to toot my own horn but I think she looks fabulous. Aaaaand if you ever want my help shopping, picking out outfits, or just want style advice I'm more than happy to help. Making my friends stylish is one of my greatest joys

Style on warriors!

While you're waiting here are some a few pieces from the Elie Saab Fall2012 Couture show. Sooo pretty

Preview

I've been moving all this week from my apartment back into my dad's place. I'm finally done and now unpacking is my next Everest. Not looking forward to that. What I am looking forward to is organizing my closet and revisiting pieces that I may have overlooked in the past few months.

I'm also most excited for posting pics of my shopping trip(s) with my dear friend Kate. She calls me her fashion guru, which I love. I love that she comes to me for fashion advice and trusts me, which makes things a whole lot easier. The next step is to take pics of her wearing the fabulous outfits and looking ever so stylish. We talked about before and after pics so get excited.

Stay tuned!

Ditch the Dicky

Remember the dicky? If you had the misfortune to own and/or wear one, first of all let me give my condolences. Second of all, why?! Why wouldn't you spring for the entire shirt?!

For those of you who don't know what a dicky is and are giggling to yourselves it is essentially a turtleneck sans sleeves and the lower half of the shirt. Basically, it's for those who need a collar but hate shirts...? I honestly don't understand it and my fashion soul hurts the more I think about it, moving on.

(shudder)

There is an exciting new trend these days that seems to be the dicky's cooler and hotter cousin who is always on trend and knows all the awesome indie bands. This season the detached collar has been gracing many a neckline. What's great about these collars are their ability to transform a simple blouse or top into more of a statement piece.
Add one of these to a brightly colored cashmere sweater and BAM! brand new top.  They also come in beaded varieties and are more like necklaces so they're easier to wear with different types of tops.

(ermergherd! so cute)

I love this look so much because of it's unconventionality and it even looks cool with a strapless dress. Talk about trendsetting!

The detached collar is an easy and cool way to amp up any outfit this season. Plus they're not a lying to everyone like the dicky. Really dicky, who are you trying to fool?

It doesn't have to be raining to wear a trench

I can't believe it took me this long to realize this simple idea. It was slightly chilly today as fall starts to settle in and I wasn't ready for a pea coat. Staring into my closet at my various coats and jackets I was stuck. It's too early to fully submerge myself into dark colors as I tend to do when the temperature drops so I was looking for some color, i.e. anything but black or gray. Then it came to me. What about my trench coat? I don't wear it as often as I would like because Colorado gets rain so randomly and I'm usually caught off guard.

The jacket is actually quite interesting, I found it at Urban Outfitters for an amazing price. It was one of their re-purposed pieces where they took a men's trench coat and redesigned it to fit a woman. It has three-quarter length sleeves and pleats were added to the back. It's really very cute and still over sized so it makes me feel small and cozy.

Moral of the story is this (if you're looking for something like that), wear a trench coat more often or if you don't already own one get thee to a store and purchase one. I can't count how many times I've read in magazines that everyone should own a "classic trench".

I grabbed the jacket and confidently walked out the door to face the world wearing a trench coat on a clear day (very rebellious, I know). I wanted to kick myself for all the times I didn't think to wear it on days like this, but went shopping instead with my jacket swinging in the fall breeze.
